Beer O' Clock

Formally known as Beer O' Slots, Beer O’ Clock is a modern digital desktop slot machine game. Emulated from the classic casino slot machine game, players can place bets and pull the lever to try and match different glasses of beer. The aim of the game is to match glasses of beer in rows, columns or horizontally.

Rogelio, a web developer, asked if I could help make his game, Beer O' Slots,

more visually appealing with better functionality based on user research.

Research

I conducted a heuristics evaluation on the website using Jakob Nielsen's

10 general principles for interaction design.

They are called "heuristics" because they are broad rules of thumb and not specific usability guidelines.

They are called "heuristics" because they are broad rules of thumb and not specific usability guidelines.

Sometimes, the interface is too cluttered with a lack of hierarchy. This makes it very difficult for us to focus or function properly.

Users should not have to wonder whether different words, situations, or actions mean the same thing.

Even better than good error messages is a careful design which prevents a problem from occurring in the first place.

Insights

Compared to other similar slot machine games, Beer Slot's had extra information on the landing page, which kept the game from looking minimal.
Beer Slot's lacked the common "Bet, Win, and Credits/Add Credit" buttons.
All slot machine games had a theme like the Beer O' Slots.
A lot of the slot machines have a lever, while the Beer O' Slots didn't have one.
